What it means to us
At Kapow Interactive, sustainability isn’t just a trendy buzzword—it’s at the beating heart of everything we do. We’re all about keeping the good times rolling not just for today but for generations to come. Our passion for sustainability is as vibrant as our creations, and we’re committed to weaving eco-conscious practices into the very fabric of our company. Because hey, we love our lifestyle, and we’re eager to make sure it stays awesome for those who come after us.
With the assistance of EcoBiz Queensland, we participated in an audit that allowed us valuable insights into our environmental footprint. For us, this process wasn’t just about numbers; it was about understanding our role in the larger ecosystem. Recognizing our impact empowered us to take meaningful steps toward minimizing our environmental footprint for maximum impact.
Our Achievements so far
Energy
- Solar power added to rooftop in 2022, this reduces our reliance on coal powered energy and reduces our monthly bill too!
- Shade blinds installed to help keep sun out of the office
- We use fans for cooling when we can, and air conditioning only when we need it
- Computers and other devices are turned off completely in the evenings
- Air conditioners are serviced regularly
- De-lamping in the office – a number of fluorescent bulbs have been removed where not needed
Waste
- 10c recycling collected and returned
- Comingled recycling collected
- Used paper reused on the reverse and recycled when possible
- We print only when necessary, e.g. displaying on screen instead of printing
- Sustainable paper sourced
- We only create one small bag of rubbish per week.
In the Kitchen
- Wash dishes with a full load only
- Don’t let the water run
- Let dishes air dry when possible
- Minimise use of single use items like takeaway containers, paper napkins and paper towels
- We bring our own lunches and snacks in reusable containers
Other notes
- Green procurement where possible (FSC office paper etc)
- We minimise purchase of new items unless necessary (e.g. we will replace our fluoro bulbs with energy efficient models when they need replacing)
- When purchasing, we check energy ratings to ensure we get high efficiency (e.g. new fridge purchase in 2022)
- We find new homes for secondhand goods that are no longer needed but still usable
- Partnerships with local sustainable and eco friendly businesses such as Eco Barge Clean Seas and Zero Waste Whitsunday
